NOS Signal Service Corporation Beacon

In July 2023, I received photos of an absolutely wonderful new-old-stock Signal Service Corporation beacon from Warnecke Miller, a reader of this website. This signal, the on-board electromechanical flasher mounted in the housing, and the wonderful box sign beneath it, were manufactured between 1932 and 1941.

According to Warnecke:
“My father did demolition work in the late 1960’s and a warehouse was being torn down.  The light was in a decaying box in the back of the warehouse in Putnam or Westchester County, New York – it had never been put into service.  All the items in the warehouse were being sent to the dump.  He was given permission to take the light home.  It hung in our stairwell at our home my entire childhood.  It has now been given to me and I am hanging it in my stairwell now.”

Despite the fact that this light was not retired from service in New Jersey, nor found here, it certainly deserves it’s own page on the GSS site. It was made in NJ after all!
